Beginning of February ‘22; yay!
Free And Open Source(FOSS) Work
- Thanks to Pjotr, we now have a new issue tracker hosted in gemini (gemini://thebird.nl/gn-gemtext-threads/README.gmi). You have to use a gemini client to view that. You can use a proxy to view that content e.g. here
- New issues assigned to me. Once I finish this task I’ll work on them:
- Understood what Cross-Reference tables are and how they are used in
the context of genenetwork2. The
caseattribute
cross reference table stores tho case attribute data for samples. I should document this somewhere. - Created a BBB room to host genetics101: An entry level presentation on genetics and what genenetwork does for contributors without any biology or genetics background. The most important thing I got out of this presentation was the “2 hand model of genetics”.
- Reviewed:
- Fixed a serious bug in genenetwork3 here.
- Use:
M-x toggle-truncate-lines
in GNU Emacs to toggle wrapping of long lines. - Genenetwork services, IIUC were out because of some sand-storm.
- As usual, cleared a bunch of e-mails. The “Art of Nonviolent Communication” proved resourceful in how I communicate nowadays.
- FOSSDEM 2022 happened. I hanged out at the Declarative and Minimalistic Computing devroom.
- Hanged out with Jgart and discussed a bunch of work issues. The next hang-out will be a pairing session.
Grad School
- Bought exercise books for my next module.
- Research work interrupted by a huge event in my personal life.
- Classes to start this week.
Books
- A recommendation from Genenetwork’s twitter feed: “Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man 3rd ed.”
- I bought the following books which were on offer at Text Book Centre: “Conversations With God”; “The Happy Prince and Other Stories”; “The Art of War”; “The Prince”; and “The Return of Sherlock Holmes”.
- Made some progress in “Bad Science”.
- Little progress in “How To Read a Book”.
Personal & Miscellaneous
- I started my Monday listening to E-Sir. His album: “Nimefika” is such a blessing.
- Chris Kaiga dropped a new album: “Adventures of Chris Kaiga”. I’ve been playing “Nairobi Girl” and “Weekendi” on repeat.
- Read up on Design Docs.
- Huge personal event that I’m not comfortable sharing here; I’m good though. I received much love and support from my dear ones.
- Did some research on how to build a man’s closet from scratch; and winded up doing some shopping(for clothes) over the weekend.
- Read up on how to read papers; and how to write them.
- Watched Marty Lobdell’s: “Study Less Study Smart”.
- Watched some video on how to take better notes(using the Cornell Note Taking System).
- Hanged out with close friends.
